Kathryn studied sculpture at the
Workshop Arts Centre in Willoughby for three years where she learned to
use a wide range of materials and styles, from traditional through to
contemporary and showed works in various exhibitions. She also studied
life drawing to further develop sculptural perceptions.
After moving to Blackheath Kathryn continued sculpting but felt the need to experiment with painting. It can be clearly seen that her sculpting experience informs her painting with her use of texture and form, and she discovered the excitement of colour working with the Fauvian Group at the Blackheath Art Society. She is still experimenting and has created interesting and exciting effects, further developing a unique style already noticeable in her early works. She remains strongly influenced by the Fauves and her subjects – landscape, abstract and figurative are executed in a whimsical style using paint with a thick unselfconscious application. Kathryn has been awarded a number of prizes and her paintings are held in private collections throughout Australia and overseas. She was a founding member of the Gallery Blackheath to which she has returned as a full partner in 2008. |
